Hello Xrider, I was wondering if you could help please?

I have purchased the Delta Smartwave for early PU-8 for my 1002 Playstation 1 and have removed the resistors and soldered all the connections correctly following your instructions on the website. This includes the extra wire. I have used a multimeter to test the connects and it appears that everything is connected. However I still am getting a black and white image when using composite, so the smartwave is not doing what it should be doing. I can provide images as needed. Thank you for your support!

Thanks Xrider,

Its a PAL system that previously has had a DeltaWave PSNEE installed successfully so it can play NTSC games.

It's only NTSC games that give out a black and white image over composite. Of course, I can bypass this by using an RGB SCART cable instead but I am not getting the benefit of the correct sync and therefore minor input lag when playing NTSC over RGB SCART. PAL games play in colour correctly over composite.
Please see the attached images of my attempt. I'm still only a novice when it comes to soldering but everything looks correct to my eye under a microscope. Is there any other way I can verify the connections using the multimeter? Images would be very helpful. Thank you :)

Thank you for your photos, and congratulations on your build ! it looks very clean!

However, this solder joint doesn’t seem to have taken properly. Could you please redo it?

I also have some doubts regarding the HDMI adapter you are using.
There is a subtle issue related to the sync update on PlayStation PU-7 and PU-8 Early models only. It affects certain HDMI adapters that do not properly reset after the frequency change, even if the adapter itself is fine. This results in the adapter outputting black and white instead of color.

👉 Please try the following solution:
1. Turn on your console and start an NTSC game (you should see the faulty black-and-white output).
2. Wait a few seconds.
3. Unplug and replug the video connector at the back of your console while it’s running with the NTSC game.
4. Check if the image has returned to color.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Thanks for the kind words Xrider, It's not the best, but at least one of the two modchips is working!
I tried to redo the solder joint you mentioned, and I believe it looks better as shown in the attached picture.

Sadly this made no change to the black and white display issue. I then tried to reflow all the solder points on the deltawave again just to be sure. I have even switched out the cable for a different one just to make that's not the issue. Still nothing. It's there any further troubleshooting that can be done at this point, or should I just send my PS1 to you? :gene:

One thing to note is that I am not using an kind of HDMI interface. The PS1 is directly connected via composite into a CRT TV just like the good old days. The CRT TV does support ntsc signals from my testing so that's not an issue either. Any advise would be much appreciated!
